Motif #1 has been captured in so many different settings, weather conditions, light and somehow, it never gets old.

DOGTOWN & BABSON BOULDER TRAIL
Dogtown was an area of Gloucester that was created as a safe haven that was located away from the ocean front. It was primarily populated with the wives and widows of seamen and the dogs that protected them.
By the early 1800’s it was only elderly women, who were believed to be witches. When the population waned, all that remained were their dogs and their wild descendants.
Long after the last inhabitant passed, Roger Babson created a trail with 30 massive boulders etched by local masons with inspirations sayings. You can hike the trail, view the boulders and think about the storied history of the area.
